Tall Ship Atlantis

The barquentine Atlantis was built as the ‘Bürgermeister Bartels’ at the shipyard Wichhorst in Hamburg in 1905 as a lightship. Moored in the Elbe estuary where it was impossible to build a lighthouse, the ship provided a floating beacon to ensure safe passage for shipping.

Barquentine rigging
The hull of the ship was created with the lines and characteristics of a classical sailing ship, one of the reasons for her conversion in 1984 to a cruising ship with barquentine rigging: the foremast is square-rigged, the main and the mizzen mast are gaff rigged with staysails. This thorough restoration project was initiated by Captain H. Paschburg at the Scheel and Joehnk shipyard in Hamburg and in Stettin, Poland. After becoming a stunning Tall Ship, the ship was renamed the ‘Atlantis’.

Comfort and luxury
Tall Ship Atlantis was acquired 2005 by her current owner, Jan Bruinsma of shipping company Tallship Company in Franeker (The Netherlands). Her interior was converted to a high level of comfort and luxury. Thereby respecting her traditional atmosphere which makes Tall Ship Atlantis so desirable. The richly wood panelled and comfortable salon with stylish bar, library, buffet- and dining area is beloved by many guests. The ship has 18 comfortable cabins with single beds at the same level each with toilet and shower. The large upper deck with bar offers a wonderful space to lounge and enjoy the great outdoors.
